Jury orders Chicago's Saint Joseph Hospital to pay $23.6 million to girl who suffered brain damage at birth

Amita Health Saint Joseph Hospital Chicago must pay $23.6 million to a girl who sustained brain damage after doctors at the hospital allegedly failed to perform a caesarian section to deliver her quickly enough, a Cook County jury has ordered.

The jury reached its verdict on Friday after deliberating for more than two days, according to attorneys for the girl. The jury awarded Amirah Whiten, now 4, money for loss of a normal life, pain and suffering and future medical expenses, among other things.
