A St. Louis jury awarded $4.7 billion to 22 women who claimed asbestos in Johnson & Johnson's powder caused their ovarian cancer. While the award was the sixth-largest ever in a product-defect case -- J&J may pay far less, or nothing.
No verdict of that size has survived appeal. Indeed, of the 25 largest U.S. jury awards, 23 were reversed or drastically cut .
