Jury awards $3.4 million to family of Omaha woman who died after surgery

Barbara Montgomery underwent gastric bypass surgery, which creates a smaller stomach pouch, eight days before Christmas in 2012. She was released from Immanuel Medical Center on Dec. 21, and on Dec. 26, Montgomery suffered cardiac arrest and a brain injury caused by oxygen deprivation. The jury agreed and awarded Montgomery’s family $3.365 million. White, Midwest Surgical Associates and CHI Health were all named in the lawsuit.
